After a good turnout at Badges United and the Lions Club’s bell-ringing efforts Saturday, the Salvation Army of Emporia has announced it is putting a new spin on the 12 days of Christmas.
Capt. Mylie Hadden says there will be a 12 Days of Christmas Red Kettle Match campaign beginning Monday — and several local businesses have agreed to be part of the effort. Mitchell Markowitz Construction, Modern Air, Sutherlands and Evco have agreed to match all kettle donations through the rest of the campaign ending Dec. 23. The schedule:
*Monday: Mitchell Markowitz
*Tuesday: Modern Air
*Wednesday: Sutherlands
*Thursday: Evco
*Friday: Mitchell Markowitz
*Saturday: Modern Air
*Dec. 18: Sutherlands
*Dec. 19: Mitchell Markowitz
*Dec. 20: Modern Air
*Dec. 21: Mitchell Markowitz
*Dec. 22: Modern Air
*Dec. 23: Mitchell Markowitz
Funds will bolster the Salvation Army’s work in homelessness prevention, emergency assistance, holiday assistance and food security.
This comes as the campaign was off to a slow start. Heading into Real Estate Wednesday this past Wednesday and Saturday’s special fundraising efforts, the campaign hit the midway point with around $8,000 generated, below the halfway goal of $20,000. The total goal is $40,000.
Numbers from Wednesday and Saturday, along with an updated campaign total, are pending.
More information about the new matching campaign and the overall effort will be available on the Salvation Army of Lyon County in Emporia’s Facebook page.
