The 20th rendition of Freedom Fest continues having an impact on different ventures for veterans across Lyon County.
After presentations of $1,700 checks for the North Lyon County Veterans Memorial and the All Veterans Memorial, the Freedom Fest Committee had a presentation of another $1,700 check for the USD 252 Honor Flight program in Olpe on Tuesday. Olpe program coordinator Megan McGuire says proceeds will help with the upcoming trip right after spring break.
McGuire says she saw several a number of Honor Flight participants also taking part in Freedom Fest activities last month, so it was good to see the connections between area veterans and district students broadened in that way.
Proceeds from Freedom Fest, which celebrated its 20th anniversary last month, are also donated to the 137th and 635th Regiment Scholarship Program for family members of veterans in those units and Enlisted Association of the National Guard of Kansas.
