Continued discussions and potential action related to a requested zoning change by Newman Regional Health will highlight the December meeting of the Emporia Planning Commission Tuesday night.
Commissioners will revisit the request that was tabled following a nearly six-hour meeting inside of the White Auditorium main gymnasium in late November. KVOE has previously reported there will be some notable changes this time around, namely, there will not be a public hearing portion of the meeting.
Residents can still submit questions or comments by emailing emporiainfo@emporiaks.gov by the close of business Tuesday. The meeting will also be live-streamed on the city’s website EmporiaKS.gov.
Newman is asking for the series of code text changes as Stormont-Vail Health continues planning for a proposed $30 million medical facility in Emporia. Following the November meeting, both entities agreed to mediation on the matter.
Planning Commission members have the option of recommending approval or denial to Emporia city commissioners as part of the meeting. They could also table a recommendation to allow for more discussions.
In other business, commissioners will consider a request for a preliminary PUD for the Lockwood Subdivision which was also tabled at the November 21 meeting. An application requesting a conditional use permit for ground floor dwellings at 502 Commercial Street, the election of officers for the 2024 calendar year and one executive session for attorney-client privilege matters are also on the agenda.
The meeting will begin at 6 pm inside of the Municipal Courtroom at White Auditorium. Any attendance overflow will be moved to the White Auditorium Little Theatre.
