More conversations are coming next year on a significant topic for USD 251 North Lyon County.
Board members approved a facility study with DCS Services to assess the current state and projected lifespan for all district buildings as part of the most recent board meeting. Superintendent Bob Blair tells KVOE News a special 12-person committee is in the early processes at this time.
The decision on DCS Services follows the committee’s formation in May after a 30-page study on enrollment trends, building overviews, maintenance and past public votes on major facility projects from G Kent Stewart in April. Blair admits this is a lengthy process — possibly anywhere from one to three years before it makes a recommendation — and he says the committee members are thorough with an eye towards making the right decision for the district.
Board members also got an update on the district’s professional development document, which includes goals in several categories, including curriculum and instruction, student development, school improvement and professionalism as well as various license requirements and mentoring plans at the teacher, specialist, building leader and district leader levels. Blair says the plan, while current and approved by the Kansas State Board of Education, is near the end of its five-year cycle and will be updated soon.
