Emporia’s three major housing development projects remain in different stages before homes are available.
The Mahtropolis subdivision near the Trusler Sports Complex should see vertical construction soon, while the Lockwood subdivision near West Sixth and Stratford which is in the approval process. In between is the Kretsinger project near the David Traylor Zoo. On KVOE’s On-Air Chat recently, Ignite Emporia Director Michelle Margeson said pre-foundation work is well underway.
The tentative plan for Kretsinger is to start building homes this upcoming summer. Another main goal is to have “attainable” housing, with base prices around $225,000 — recognizing cost increases since the project was first discussed in 2017 and since the COVID-19 pandemic tightened supply chains since 2020.
Combined, these three developments could add nearly 100 homes to the city’s housing inventory.
