Cases of flu and COVID-19 are seeing a bit of a rise as of late in the local community, however, not at an alarming rate according to Lyon County Public Health Emergency Preparedness Director Dennis Applegarth.
Applegarth updated local illness trends while joining KVOE’s Morning Show Wednesday. According to Applegarth, there has been a mild uptick in influenza cases both in the medical and community health areas along with a 25 percent positivity rate in COVID-19 cases. That being said, Applegarth noted the COVID statistic is slightly deceptive.
With residents gearing up to ring in the new year over the next several days, Applegarth says they must be prepared to prevent any transmission or catching of illnesses. He says the best way to do so is to make sure you are properly cleaning your hands regularly.
In addition to these steps, Applegarth says residents should ensure they are up-to-date on their flu and COVID vaccines to help reduce the risk of contracting either illness. If you would like to schedule a vaccine appointment you can do so by contacting CareArc at 620-342-4864 or your preferred pharmacy.
