Longtime Human Relations Director for the City of Emporia Patricia “Patty” Gilligan has passed away.
Gilligan passed Saturday at the age of 69 surrounded by friends and family. Gilligan’s 32-year career with the city began in 1984 when she was named the Emporia’s personnel secretary.
She would eventually assume the role of human relations director, a position she held until her retirement in 2016. City Commissioner Danny Giefer worked closely with Gilligan during that time and says she cared deeply for the well-being of others making human relations the perfect role for her.
A remembrance celebration will occur Friday from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the Hartford Community Center (117 Commercial Street). A rosary will be held at 10 am Saturday followed by a Mass of Christian burial at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emporia.
Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Hartford. Memorial contributions can be made out to the Emporia Eastside Community Group or an animal rescue charity of choice.
