Liquidation of inventory continues for Graves Drugs and likely will into the new year with a closing date for the storefront still unclear at this time.
That’s according to owner Melissa Daniels who spoke with KVOE News Friday. Discounted sales have been ongoing the past few weeks with more set to come at the start of the new year as the business looks to sell off most of its remaining inventory.
Daniels says all store merchandise will be 50 percent off for the next two weeks with a 75 percent discount to follow to help sell off as much of the remaining inventory as is possible.
Once the business does close up for good, the future of the storefront itself is still unclear, although Daniels says there has been quite a bit of interest expressed in the property at 609 Commercial since they announced the store would be closing in mid-December.
Despite the pending closure, many longtime staff members have remained on hand to assist with operations up until the business’ doors close until the final time. Daniels expressed her gratitude to their employees and their dedication to the business.
As previously mentioned, there is no exact date for when the store will officially close, however, Daniels says it is likely to occur before the end of January.
News of the business’s closure came earlier in December when the pharmacy announced it was closing for good at the end of business hours on December 11. Since that time, all prescription services have been turned over to Walgreens pharmacy.
Graves opened its doors back in the early 1970s and, until the pharmacy’s closure, was one of only two locally owned pharmacies in Emporia alongside Haag Pharmacy. The decision to close the store followed the passing of longtime owner and pharmacist Glenn Hadaway back in July.
