Beacon For Hope will head into 2024 as an individual entity once again.
During a recent interview on KVOE’s Talk of Emporia, Beacon Executive Director Melissa Owen announced the agency has separated from Social Innovation Laboratory the umbrella company Beacon operated under for the past year. Owen says the separation came as the result of a substantial financial offer from a local donor.
In most cases, such a major change for an organization would mean a downsizing in presence and activities but that will be far from the case for Beacon in the new year. During the same Talk of Emporia interview, Owen announced Beacon’s planned schedule of events for the coming year saying they will be putting on all of their signature events the community has come to expect.
Owen added the agency will also be bringing two new events to the community that will address a pair of areas with “deficits” when it comes to proper suicide prevention education. The two areas of focus will be local veterans and men’s mental health.
