Emporia rang out the old year with an alleged law enforcement chase and rang in the new year with another.
Emporia Police arrested Brett Wempe of Emporia and booked him early Monday after an alleged chase that started with an alleged traffic infraction near Ninth and Constitution and ended on Sherbrooke Drive a few minutes later. Wempe was arrested on suspicion of flee and elude, possession of both methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, as well as failure to appear for court and an unspecified parole violation.
Lyon County deputies were involved in a separate pursuit that developed near Seventh and Union around 2 am. John Petz of Emporia was arrested on suspicion of flee and elude as well as DUI. Other details are pending.
Formal charges are pending against both men.
