No doubt we all feel like time flies by in a flash and that sentiment is truly felt by individuals in the world of emergency communications.
While providing a recap of operations for 2023 on KVOE’s Morning Show earlier this week, Lyon County Emergency Communications Center Director Roxanne Van Gundy had to take a brief pause saying the past 12 months became a bit of a blur.
Van Gundy says the past year’s primary focus was on hiring and community outreach, two areas she believes they made great strides in with the launch of the department’s Citizen’s 911 Academy and amassing a strong staff of qualified dispatchers. Currently, Van Gundy says they have 16 dispatchers employed and are hoping to add four more in the near future.
In terms of technology upgrades, Van Gundy says there was very little for the department this year.
As for the 911 Citizen’s Academy that launched in November, Van Gundy summed up the new program in a single word, “amazing.”
