One member of the Emporia High boys wrestling team placed at the Newton Tournament of Champions that wrapped up on Saturday.
Christian Trujillo finished sixth at 157. Trujillo went 5-3 on the week and dropped a 1-0 decision to McPherson’s Hayden Farley in the fifth-place match. It was Trujillo’s second loss to Farley in the tournament after Farley pinned Trujillo in round two of the championship round.
Both Jose Vargas and Josiah Bradley at 285 made it to the fourth round of consolations before being eliminated. Five other Spartans made it to the third round of consolation before being eliminated.
Emporia High will host its winter duals tournament on Saturday with matches beginning at 9 a.m.
