It’ll be a non-traditional doubleheader for the Emporia High basketball teams on Thursday as both teams will be playing their first games since January 2.
The Emporia High boys will open up play in the Bluestem Classic against Wichita Collegiate in the 4-5 matchup. Emporia High enters the opening round contest with a 5-2 record, while Wichita Collegiate is 5-3 and ranked sixth in Class 3A. Emporia High boys coach Lee Baldwin said the Spartans have to take care of the ball against Collegiate, a team that will press for the entire game.

After the Spartans wrap up their game, the Emporia High girls will host Manhattan in a make-up game from Tuesday. Emporia High is 6-1, 1-0 in league play while Manhattan is 7-1, 2-0 in league play and has won seven straight games. Emporia High girls coach Carolyn Dorsey said the Lady Spartans have to continue playing tough.
