Area residents finally got to enjoy some near-normal temperatures Wednesday after a period of numbing cold beginning late last week.
Temperatures climbed to 37 degrees Wednesday, following a period where the wind chill didn’t get above zero for several days. A similar day is coming Thursday with highs in the low 30s, but sharply colder air is ahead. A cold front will drop our lows to around 2, and northerly winds up to 35 mph will drive wind chills down under -15.
Wind chill advisories are up for Lyon and most surrounding counties Thursday night until noon Friday. Advisories are up areawide Friday night until late Saturday morning as overnight lows go below zero and wind chills go under -10.
TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers says the cold will resemble the nastiness from last weekend into earlier this week, but it won’t be as long-lived and the chances of accumulating snowfall are slim. Next week sees a notable change in the weather pattern.
Residential travel conditions improved considerably Wednesday, although side streets and residential collectors still aren’t totally clear. County road conditions are steadily improving and are in at least decent shape for the most part.
