Emporia native and renowned musician Kelly Hunt received a warm welcome when she returned home this weekend.
The legendary blues pianist, singer and songwriter brought her soulful voice to the Emporia Granada stage to kick off the theater’s 2024 list of performances. Hunt, who has put on more than 2,000 live performances across the country throughout her career, says performing in her hometown is always a unique and extra special opportunity, largely due to the individuals in the audience.
Hunt says it is also special to be the featured performer in a theater she went to as a young girl.
Hunt also took time to give credit to Granada Director Stacy Schneider for her leadership in recent years.
Hunt’s career began back in the 1990s and since that time she has released seven studio albums with her latest, Winter Soulstice, being released in 2022 with her eighth album currently in the works.
On top of these accomplishments, Hunt is also a member of the Kansas Music Hall of Fame having been inducted back in 2006. The next act to hit the Granada stage will be country music artist Ty Herndon on February 16 at 7 pm.
