Ridership was up and feedback has been mostly positive about a handful of recent changes by Lyon County Area Transportation.
LCAT Director Shane Brunner recently spoke with KVOE News and says between 2022 and 2023, average monthly rides increased from 2,500 to 2,700. When asked what he believes contributed to the uptick, Brunner says he does not believe it was “any one thing alone.”
The uptick comes as LCAT has implemented various changes in recent years including a slight increase in single-ride fares. The 50-cent increase saw rides go from $1.50 to $2, and while he does not believe it played a role in the rise in ridership over the past 12 months, Brunner says it doesn’t seem to have negatively impacted the numbers either.
Another significant change that came recently was the addition of a full-time demand bus and the removal of one of LCAT’s two-route buses. When asked what the feedback has been to that change Brunner says he has not heard anything negative from their ridership as of yet.
With the increase in riders, Brunner says they are adding more drivers to the department with two drivers currently in training and another having recently expressed interest in a position.
