Newman Regional Health is breaking ground with a new medical partnership involving the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and KONZA National Network.
Over the past seven months, the three entities have been working together to develop RapidAlerts Direct, a real-time notification system giving medical staffers critical information about incoming or transferred patients. Newman Regional Health is the first hospital anywhere to use this new alert system.
A lot of the work involves information about MDROs, or multi-drug-resistant organisms. MDROs are now a constant concern — so the RapidAlerts Direct real-time notices will help hospitals immediately use their isolation or transmission-based protocols if needed and will also give hospitals a better chance of containing stubborn infections. The identification process typically takes several days, so having an alert system speeds up the notification and treatment processes.
Newman Regional Health was a testing site, providing “refinements” and other information for the process.
