Crosswinds Counseling and Wellness is welcoming the community to a special first-aid training seminar next month.
Crosswinds will be hosting an 8-hour public education program on youth mental health first aid on February 29. The seminar will focus on teaching the risk factors and warning signs of various mental health disorders among young residents.
According to Crosswinds CEO Amanda Cunningham, the curriculum focuses mainly on youth between the ages of 12 to 18. While most national discussions on mental health have focused largely on adults, Cunningham says intervention and education for younger residents is both extremely prevalent and crucial.
She says the earlier we can begin to recognize and assess mental health “the better.”
Next month’s seminar will take place at the Sauder Alumni Center from 9 am to 4 pm with an hour lunch break. The seminar is open to both Crosswinds staff and community members.
Kayla Scott of Crosswinds says just like CPR and other life-saving techniques, “You want as many people to have the knowledge and information as possible.”
The seminar will be free for staff and will cost $50 for non-staff attendees. There will also be required pre-work that must be completed at least the day before the in-person training session.
If you are interested in attending the seminar or would like more information contact Scott by emailing KScott@Crosswindsks.org.
If you are unable to attend the seminar, but would still like to receive the training there will be another event held on April 22.
