Two big games are on tap for the Emporia High basketball teams Friday night at Spartan Gymnasium.
The Emporia High girls put their nine game winning streak on the line facing Washburn Rural. The Lady Spartans are ranked fifth in Class 5A while the Lady Junior Blues are 8-4 and are ranked eighth in Class 6A. The Emporia High girls are looking for their first win over Washburn Rural since 2007.
Emporia High girls coach Carolyn Dorsey said getting a win over another quality 6A team would be big.
Senior Lexsey Dewitt said they need to be locked in on every possession.
For the Emporia High boys, they seek their win over Washburn Rural since Feb. 13, 2018 when the Spartans won 47-45. The Spartans control their destiny in the league standings tied with Junction City.
Emporia High boys coach Lee Baldwin said he’s excited to coach a game that will be physical.
