Incoming rainfall could mean some muddy and possibly impassable conditions on rural roadways over the coming weekend.
The National Weather Service is calling for a steady stream of rainfall beginning early Saturday morning that could last well into Sunday. Anywhere from half an inch to two inches of rainfall are possible across the area by the end of the weekend.
Scattered thunderstorms are also possible with this forecast, however, no severe activity is anticipated.
The incoming precipitation comes as several county roadways are still drying out following several snow events and half an inch of rainfall to close out January. Seth Snyder of the Lyon County Highway Department says the high levels of moisture took their toll on the county’s road network.
On a positive note, Road P5 between Admire and US Highway 56 has reopened to traffic after being closed for more than a week due to water damage. Snyder says that damage has yet to be repaired, however, that work won’t take long.
That being said, if the impending moisture does in fact reach the forecasted totals, Snyder says repair work could see a setback, although it is too early to know for sure. The coming rainfall could lead to some road closures across the area and Snyder reminds residents that if they come across a barricaded road not to try and go around it.

6 am Friday: WEATHER: Damp weekend awaits
Mild and dry conditions for most of the work week look like they will shift to damp and sloppy for the weekend.
Showers appear likely and thunderstorms are also possible early Saturday morning, with rain continuing through much of Sunday. The Weather Service is predicting anywhere from half an inch to two inches of rainfall by Sunday evening.
The area hasn’t dried out fully from January, which saw several light to moderate snow events and up to half an inch of rain. Higher-end rain totals could lead to isolated to scattered road flooding areawide. Road 225 between F and F-5 has been repaired after water was over that Lyon County road, but P-5 between Admire and US Highway 56 has now been closed for over a week after water damaged the road immediately following the late-January rainfall.
