The Saint Patrick’s Committee always does a lot of celebrating this time of year. This time, though, it isn’t doing most of its traditional fundraising.
Spokesperson Barb Lowery had details on KVOE’s Morning Show on Thursday. She says group efforts are focused on a day of celebration March 16.
The event schedule will include the traditional parade. Plans are developing for special holiday deals with local merchants and activities through the Emporia Arts Center.
Lowery says this year’s fundraising, which typically is designed to benefit a range of community groups, will be earmarked towards bringing the bagpiper group to the celebration.
Over the past 30 years, the committee has generated almost $400,000 for over 180 community groups. All the beneficiary groups have been invited to take part in the parade.
