The Emporia State indoor track & field team won two events at the WU Open over the weekend. The Hornets started off the meet with three third-place finishers on Friday with Mia Manley in the women’s pole vault and Max Neely in the men’s pole vault while Jaxon Russell finished third in the high jump. On Saturday, the Hornets finished with four provisional qualifying marks and two wins. Travis Morrison won the shot put with a provisional qualifying mark of 58 feet-1/4 inch with his second best throw of the season. Tyler Swift won the mile run with a time of 4:10.84. Mele Taula picked up another provisional qualifying mark in the women’s shot put with a personal best throw of 46 feet-5 1/2 inches to finish third. Aren Trost finished fifth in the men’s heptathlon with a provisional qualifying mark of 4941 points, a top-five score in ESU history. Emporia State returns to action at the Maverick Premier Meets beginning Friday at Minnesota State-Mankato.
