Fire crews from Emporia, Americus and Olpe made quick work of an equipment fire at Emporia’s Hill’s Pet Nutrition production plant Wednesday morning.
Crews were dispatched to Hill’s Pet Nutrition in the 400 block of South Weaver after 7 am. They were first told to investigate a fire alarm around 7:20 am, with the call upgraded to a structure fire less than 15 minutes later. Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Conley says ongoing conversations with plant management helped firefighters plan for the fire as they arrived.
Conley also credited plant employees for starting a fire suppression pool as crews got to the scene.
Once the fire was out, firefighters ventilated the building.
No injuries have been reported. Word on any production schedule adjustments is pending, but Conley says there was no apparent fire extension beyond the blower.

An investigation is underway now after a fire developed at a southeast Emporia production facility.
Early indications are the fire is out at Hill’s Pet Nutrition, 400 South Weaver. The fire is currently of unknown cause and origination point.
The fire was put out quickly. Emporia Fire was called to investigate a fire alarm around 7:20 am. Americus and Olpe fire crews were called out about 15 minutes later as the call was upgraded to an actual fire.
Other details are currently pending. No injuries have been reported.
