The Emporia State football team added to its ranks on national signing day Wednesday. The Hornets announced the addition of 27 high school players and seven transfers who will join the team for the 2024 season. Seven Kansas natives are included on the list and three of the high school signees will play in the 2024 Shrine Bowl at ESU’s Welch Stadium. The Hornets signed 11 players from Oklahoma, 10 from Texas, and two each from Missouri and Alabama. ESU focused on defense with the class with seven defensive backs, six linebackers, and six defensive lineman headlining the class. On the offensive side of the ball, the program adds five offensive lineman, three wideouts, two running backs, two quarterbacks, an S-Back, and an all-purpose player. The signees include:
Alex Allemang, kicker/punter, Emporia – Second Team All-Centennial League punter as a senior at Emporia High
Easton Brown, defensive back, Wichita – three year letterman and All-AVCTL Honorable Mention at Maize South
Sage Huffman, running back, Overland Park – set the career rushing record at Blue Valley West
Sam Hull, stinger back, Humboldt – All-State and District receiver with 11 total touchdowns at Humboldt High School
Darby Roper, wide receiver, Haven – Transfers to ESU from Hutchinson CC
Aydan Spiers, offensive lineman, Douglas – Helped lead Crusaders to 2023 City League title and 5A Runner-Up finish at Kapaun Mt. Carmel
Bobby Trujillo, linebacker, Emporia – Joined the Hornets at semester after being named First Team All-State at linebacker as a senior for Emporia High
The ESU coaching staff will review the entire class in greater detail at their Signing Day Bash on Thursday at 627 Event Space in Emporia. The public is invited to attend and begins at 6:00 p.m.
