By the end of the month, weather permitting, demolition of Emporia State’s Butcher Education Center will be visible.
Interior demolition has been underway for several weeks.
Emporia State had put the Butcher demolition into its Campus Master Plan 10 years ago as part of the overarching document detailing plans for optimizing space and managing and developing campus facilities. The demolition plan gained attention starting in May 2022 when ESU announced plans to close the Center for Early Childhood Education, followed by building demolition. CECE served 40 children as part of the closure and demolition announcement.
Butcher was built in 1960. The current plan involves green space once demolition is finished.
