The Emporia High boys swim and dive team finished fifth at the Centennial League Championships held at Capitol Federal Natatorium in Topeka on Thursday afternoon.
Emporia High recorded 255 points as a team finishing behind Washburn Rural, Manhattan, Topeka High and Junction City. The Spartans got two new state times in the meet. Logan Woydziak earned a state qualification time in the 50-yard freestyle finishing fourth with a time of 23.34 . Woydziak also earned a consideration time in the 100-yard freestyle with a sixth-place place with a time of 53.46. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Woydziak, Shane Anderson, Tyler Luthi and Ian Navarro qualified for state with a fourth-place finish with a time of 1:38.42.
Alex Allemang finished third in diving. The 200-yard medley relay team of Broden Podrebarac, Woydziak, Anderson and Luthi finished fourth with a time of 1:56.29.
Four Spartans earned All-League honors. Woydziak is a second-team selection while Allemang, Anderson and Luthi are honorable mention selections. Emporia High has qualified for the following events for state: Allemang in diving, the 200 yard freestyle relay, Woydziak in the 50 freestyle and the 400-yard freestyle relay. Emporia High has consideration times in the following events: Woydziak in the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard medley relay. The Spartans will see if their consideration times in those events will make the cut for state early next week.
The Class 5-1A State Swim and Diving Championships will begin Thursday with prelims and semifinals in diving. Swim prelims will take place on Friday with finals for both swim and dive taking place on Saturday. The state meet will be held in Topeka at Capitol Federal Natatorium.
