Legislative concerns are at the forefront for members of the USD 251 North Lyon County administration and school board.
Superintendent Bob Blair says the Kansas House and Senate have separate but related bills that would base general funding on the current year enrollment instead of the current and immediately previous year. Blair says that wouldn’t help smaller districts like USD 251.
The district has had several conversations with local lawmakers, and Blair expects more discussions later this session.
Board members also got an update on a proposed remodel for the Northern Heights football field press box. Sealed bids are due March 11, with possible consideration by the board as soon as March 13. They also appproved amendments to the articles of agreement with the Flint Hills Special Education Cooperative. Blair echoed comments from USD 252 Southern Lyon County Superintendent Ryan Muhlig after that board’s meeting this week, saying there are no operational changes for USD 251 with these revisions.
The cooperative serves seven area school districts: Emporia, North Lyon County, Sothern Lyon County, Chase County, Madison-Virgil, Hamilton and Morris County. Students in nearly 40 schools areawide get services through the cooperative.
