Organizers of a multifaceted fundraiser this weekend are hoping the community shows up in force to help a man battling cancer.
Mike Morris has been dealing with metastatic melanoma — officially — since June 2022. Family friend and event organizer Lisa Fuller says Morris has had a hard medical road since the initial diagnosis.
Morris recently had arm surgery and is traveling to the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston next week for additional consultations.
Messiah Lutheran Church will host the fundraiser from 7-11 am Saturday. Biscuits and gravy will be served for a suggested donation of $10 a plate or a freewill donation. There will be a raffle on a goat or calf shed, tree services and a load of gravel. There will also be a raffle for the chance to win one of three firearms. Tickets for the gun raffle are $20 each or six for $100. Another gun will be available through a card deck game at $20 a card. People can also order T-shirts for later delivery.
Proceeds benefit the Mike Morris Medical Fund. Residents can call Fuller at 620-341-2829 or Richelle Birk at 620-591-0055 for more information.
