An Allen man was hospitalized following a two vehicle collision just outside of Emporia Friday.
According to Lyon County Detective Eric Williams, the accident occured just before 1:45 pm in the 1900 block of Burlingame Road when a southbound 2013 Chrysler Town and Country driven by 65-year-old Thomas Lawrence of Emporia crossed the center line of the roadway. At the same time, a 2024 Toyota Sequoia driven by 70-year-old Montie Wheat of Allen was traveling northbound and attempted to evade the Lawrence vehicle.
The Wheat Sequoia was struck on the driver’s side and entered the east ditch where it rolled once before coming to a rest on its wheels. Wheat had to be extricated from the vehicle and was taken to Newman Regional Health with reported minor injuries.
Lawrence was treated for minor injuries at the scene but declined transport to a hospital. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.
