The Emporia State softball team finished 5-0 at the ESU Classic at the Trusler Sports Complex after two wins on Monday. The Lady Hornets started the day with a 9-1 win in the morning over UMary. The Lady Hornets won in a run rule scoring in every inning of the five-inning affair. Avery Brewer had a perfect day at the plate going 3-for-3 with two RBIs while Alexis Dial went 2-for-2 with two runs, a double, a walk, and a sacrifice fly. Jordan Harrison (3-1) gave up a run in the top of the fifth but allowed just two hits with three strikeouts against the Marauders.
In game two in the afternoon, the Lady Hornets held off Sioux Falls 3-2. ESU jumped out to a 1-0 lead after one as Abbey Ward came home on a wild pitch. After USF tied the game in the second, ESU plated two in the second on a Bailey Flewelling triple and a McKensy Glass single. USF crept back with a run in the sixth but couldn’t get any closer. Gracie Rabe (1-1) picked up her first win of the year by going the distance scattering five Cougar hits with three strikeouts.
ESU has won eight straight and takes a 9-6 record into the three-day Washburn Tournament which begins Friday morning in Topeka.
