The Emporia High bowling teams got one final tune-up for the postseason on Monday at Flint Hills Lanes.
Both teams finished second behind Seaman. The Spartans recorded a series of 3,377, 103 behind the Vikings. The Lady Spartans recorded a series of 2,456, nearly 600 behind the Lady Vikings. Devin Mohling led Emporia High with a seventh-place finish with a 615 series. Mohling said he’s excited for the challenge for Thursday.
Two other Spartans finished in the top 10. Colton Swift finished eighth with a 593 series. Nate Green finished ninth with a 590 series.
Taylor McKay led the Lady Spartans with a sixth-place finish with a 504 series. McKay said the Lady Spartans should be used to seeing the same competitors like they did on Monday during regionals coming up on Thursday.
Nikki Morrow was the other Lady Spartan to record a top-10 finish, taking 10th with a 465 series.
Coach Amy Martin said Monday’s meet was a challenge for what’s ahead on Thursday for the Spartans.
Martin said the Lady Spartans are still continuing to grow.
Emporia High will head to Hutchinson for its regional on Thursday. The Spartans will bowl at 9:30 a.m. with the Lady Spartans set to bowl at 1 p.m. The top three teams and the top six highest individual scores that are not members of a qualifying team at regionals will qualify for state to be held on Friday March 1 at Northrock Lanes in Wichita.
