Planning work may be completed by late summer for a replacement of the bridge that collapsed over Dry Creek earlier this month.
According to Lyon County Engineer Chip Woods, the tentative schedule has BG Consultants completing its surveying for the project by mid-April with field check plans set to be submitted by late June. Woods says final plans should be ready and submitted by the end of August allowing the Highway Department to begin identifying and ordering materials for the work.
Woods estimates bids for the project could go out by sometime in mid-October, however, an exact date is currently pending. The bridge on Road 170 collapsed either late in the evening of February 3 or the early morning hours of February 4.
Woods has stated once the physical work gets underway it will all take place “in-house” through the Road and Bridge Department. The reason for the “in-house” approach is due in part to the bridge not being eligible for grant funding.
