Nearly a month after her arrest, a Texas woman now faces formal charges of human trafficking in Coffey County.
Leslie Cadena, age 24 of Laredo, was formally charged Wednesday. She is charged with single counts of human smuggling, interference with law enforcement, possession of drug paraphernalia, no valid drivers license and no proof of insurance.
Cadena was arrested by the Kansas Highway Patrol on Jan. 30 after an alleged incident the previous day. Court documents posted online to the Kansas District Court Public Access Portal indicate Cadena allegedly transported a minor into Kansas illegally, also saying Cadena was benefiting financially from that action.
Word on upcoming court dates is currently pending. Cadena faces up to 11 years in prison and a fine of up to $300,000 just on the human smuggling charge.
