The Hornets rallied in the ninth but couldn’t overcome their own mistakes in a 7-3 loss to open up MIAA play at Northwest Missouri Friday. The Bearcats jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first inning and the Hornets never stabilized. The leadoff Bearcat reached on an error as only three of the Northwest runs were earned. The Hornets didn’t score until plating three in the top of the ninth inning. Cade Barton fought through 6.0 innings allowing seven hits and seven runs for ESU to take the loss. The Hornets struggled to sustain rallies striking out 13 times while walking just three times. Logan Myers finished 4-for-5 in the game. The three-game series continues Saturday and Sunday.
