The Fifth Judicial District Court Clerk offices in Emporia and Cottonwood Falls will fully reopen to the public Monday.
Court Administrator Ruth Wheeler says this follows work by staffers to backload new case and paper filings since early January after the state’s eCourt system was hit by a significant foreign cyberattack in mid-October. Court clerk offices in both Emporia and Cottonwood Falls were closed to the public for three hours a day so staff could complete the backloading process, which is officially complete for the case management system — not, however, for payment receipts, which are handled by a centralized payment center.
Offices in Emporia and Cottonwood Falls will now be open to the public during normal business hours, 8 am to 5 pm weekdays, except on state holidays. Wheeler asks clients to be patient as the payment center continues working through the backlog of paper receipts, which currently are not accessible online if they were made between Dec. 8 and this past Tuesday.
