Several hay bales were destroyed by a fire in southeast Lyon County on Monday.
Fire developed at 2054 Road 60 shortly before 8 am. Hartford-Neosho Rapids Fire Chief Greg Zumbrunn says about 10 bales were on fire when crews from his district, Lyon County Rural and Olpe arrived.
Initially reported as a brush fire, the fire was contained to the bales, which were spread out and watered to get the fire out. Nobody was hurt.
Zumbrunn says the fire was a rekindle from a previous controlled burn nearby. Depending on the material, the US Department of Agriculture says the estimated loss could be upwards of $3,000.
