Olpe overcame an abysmal shooting performance to defeat Madison 37-34 tonight in the class 1A-D1 substate semifinal.
Madison led 19-15 at the end of the first half, controlling most of the first two quarters with Olpe shooting 6/26 from the field.
Olpe’s Lilly Skalsky sparked the charge, getting Olpe out of their offensive woes in the third quarter pushing the Eagles on top 29-26 heading into the final frame.
Both teams would trade buckets to start off the fourth quarter.
With two minutes to play, Olpe narrowly led 36-34. Both teams would trade turnovers the rest of the way, with Olpe hitting one free throw down the stretch.
Olpe finished 15/44 from the field, and 4/21 from the foul line. Olpe coach Ron Slaymaker said it was a game where it was survive and advance.
Skalsky led all scorers with 13, with Jaylnn Weakley leading Madison with 12.
Olpe will face Marmaton Valley tomorrow at 630pm.
