Emporia Fire was dispatched to a pair of fire calls in a short period of time Sunday afternoon.
Firefighters handled a trash trailer fire at the Emporia Transfer Station, 3100 West South. No injuries have been reported.
Firefighters were actually wrapping up their response to the area of Ninth and Whildin when the Transfer Station fire was reported. There was no fire, but there was smoke after something was left on the stove.
The fire at the Transfer Station and the reported fire near Ninth and Whildin happened with wind speeds gusting as high as 25-30 mph. Red flag warnings, signaling critical danger, have been active since late Sunday areawide. Outdoor burns are banned in all area counties until the warnings expire or are canceled.
