Jobless rates across the KVOE listening area did not track with the statewide trend between December and January.
In Kansas, the jobless rate held steady at 2.6 percent. Labor Department economist Nathan Kessler says there wasn’t much overall movement in one main category.
Jobless rates increased noticeably across the KVOE listening area. Emporia went from 2 percent in December to 2.8 percent in January. Lyon County went up from 2 percent to 2.7 percent.
All area counties had increases as well. Chase County has the area low at 2.3 percent, increasing 0.3 percentage points. Coffey County has the area high, going up from 2.4 percent to 3.7 percent. Morris and Osage counties, both of which were under 2 percent in December, went up at least a full percentage point in January.
