The Emporia State softball team split with Newman on Saturday in Wichita. The Lady Hornets jumped all over the Jets early to win game one 15-4 in five innings. ESU scored five in the first and three in the second on the way to a 10-0 lead. Bailey Flewelling led E-State with a 4-for-4 day at the plate with three runs and three RBIs finishing a triple short of the cycle. Jayda VanAckeren (6-2) scattered four runs and seven hits over 5.0 innings to pick up the victory. The win gave ESU their 15th consecutive win. In game two, it was NU’s turn to grab the early lead on the way to a 7-4 victory over the Lady Hornets. The Navy & Red scored two in the first and three in the third on the way to a 5-0 lead through four innings. The Lady Hornets scored four runs in the last three innings but couldn’t make a run back in the seventh. Emma Furnish and Lexi Williams each finished 2-for-3 with Williams hitting a double and a triple in the game. Jordan Harrison (4-2) lasted just 2.1 innings allowing five hits and five runs to take the loss. ESU wraps up the road trip at a Top 25 Central Oklahoma team Sunday. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
