The Olpe boys basketball team used a fast start in its third-place game of the Class 1A-Division I State Tournament against Quinter Saturday afternoon at the Colby Event Center.
Olpe began the game on a 16-0 run and never looked back in a 46-32 victory over Quinter. Olpe led 18-6 after one en route to a 28-15 lead at halftime. Olpe led by as many as 17 in the contest in the third quarter. Blake Skalsky led Olpe with 17 points in his final game in an Olpe uniform. Brecken Mcquire added 10.
With the win, Olpe coach Chris Schmidt earned his 500th career win. Schmidt said a good start was pivotal after falling to South Gray in the semifinals on Friday.
Schmidt said he’s thankful for the milestone to come at the state tournament.
Olpe finished its season with a 21-4 record.
