Several Lyon County fire departments dealt with a grass fire Sunday afternoon.
The fire was reported near Roads 370 and W along the Kansas Turnpike shortly before 3:20 pm, prompting responses by Allen-Admire, Miller and Reading fire crews.
Reading Fire Chief Scott Wilkerson says the fire was a controlled burn that apparently got away. Less than 10 acres of grass burned. No structures were damaged and nobody was hurt.
It took about an hour for firefighters to get that blaze handled. Shortly after firefighters wrapped up their work along the Turnpike, they were called to the 2000 block of Road 400, along the Wabaunsee County line, for a second reported grass fire. Wilkerson says the Road 400 fire was a large fire, triggering a lot of calls to emergency dispatch, but it stayed under control.
