It’s a busy time of the year for the Flint Hills Optimist Club.
The group will have multiple activities this month beginning with the annual All-Star Basketball Classic on Saturday, March 23 at White Auditorium.
On KVOE’s Newsmaker 2 Segment Tuesday, Club President Stan Fowler says the event showcases 40 high school seniors from the area to play one final game. Fowler says the event couldn’t be possible without the help of Ken Hanson, Chairman of the All-Star Classic, and Brett Stewart, club member. Fowler says a banquet will kick off the festivities on Monday with a guest speaker.
Proceeds from the All-Start Classic will benefit Flint Hills Area youth. Hanson will join KVOE’s Newsmaker 2 Segment at 8:20 a.m. Monday to preview more on the All-Star Basketball Classic.
After the club wraps up the All-Star Classic, it’ll put on its annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 30 at 10 a.m. at Jones Park. Fowler says somewhere between 15,000 and 17,000 pieces of candy will be used for the hunt. Fowler says attendees should arrive early due to limited parking at Jones Park. The Easter Bunny will also be on hand for photos before the hunt.
There will be hunts for age groups 2 and under up to 8-9 years old. An area will also be available for those youth who have Special Needs.
