Wichita State redshirt junior guard Colby Rogers set the program record for 3-pointers in a season as the No. 12 seed Shockers held off No. 13 seed Rice 88-81 in the first round of the American Athletic Conference Tournament Wednesday in Fort Worth, Texas. The Shockers raced out to a 52-39 lead at halftime behind the offense of Rogers who led WSU with 22 points. Finishing 5-for-9 from outside, Rogers broke Wichita State’s single-season school record for threes with 93 passing Sean Ogirri’s record set in the 2005-06 season. Ronnie DeGray scored a season high 15 points and had season highs in rebounds (8) and assists (4). The Shockers shot 11 for 21 from outside the arc in the win as they turned a 13 point deficit five minutes into the game into a 13 points lead at the half. Wichita State improves to 14-18 on the year and faces No. 5 seed Memphis Thursday in the second round at 1:30 p.m.
