Coffey County Sheriff Tom Johnson says a law enforcement pursuit covering parts of three counties ended with an arrest early Friday.
Johnson says the incident began unfolding around 2 am with a traffic stop on US Highway 75 after the driver of a vehicle, later identified as Robert Allen Carpenter Jr, was allegedly “traveling at an excessive rate of speed.” Carpenter allegedly sped away, starting a chase that went through parts of Woodson and Wilson counties before ending with Carpenter’s arrest in Fredonia. Besides flee and elude, Carpenter was arrested on suspicion of interfering with law enforcement, possession of stolen property, possession of an unspecified controlled substance, driving while revoked and littering.
Formal charges are pending.
Johnson thanked police departments in Burlington and Yates Center, as well as sheriff’s offices in Wilson and Woodson counties, for their help with this case.
