The Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s Office says it didn’t take long for roofing repair companies to start calling residents after tornadic activity last week.
Undersheriff Eric Kirsch says some companies will be legitimate but others will not. He advises residents to ask for credentials and to call the Sheriff’s Office at 785-765-3323 for help in validating both the company and individuals representing the company. The Sheriff’s Office also says you should not sign any contract where money flows from the insurance company straight to the roofing companies. As a social media post says, “You may not see your money. You may not see your roof.”
The National Weather Service says one tornado went from near Alta Vista to northeast of Volland on Wednesday, damaging some rural buildings near Volland before dissipating. The EF-2 tornado was up to a quarter-mile wide at its peak.
