The Emporia State baseball team couldn’t complete the comeback in a 13-8 defeat to Northwestern Oklahoma on Tuesday night at the Trusler Sports Complex. The Rangers scored three in the first to take the early lead before ESU came back with two in the bottom of the first on a Kadyn Williams two-run single. NWOSU scored the next 7 runs of the game to lead 10-2 through five. The Hornets cut the deficit to two with two runs in the sixth and four in the seventh but allowed the Rangers to reextend the lead with the last three runs of the game. E-State was outhit 16-8 in the ballgame that lasted three hours and thirty two minutes and featured 13 total pitching changes. Head coach Brad Hill said the bad start was too much to overcome.
Seth Stover (2-3) pitched the first inning for ESU and gave up four hits and three runs to take the loss. Williams led the Hornets with four RBIs. Emporia State returns to action in MIAA play against Northeastern State this weekend at the Trusler Sports Complex. First pitch for the three-game series is Friday at 3:00 p.m.
