The Emporia State football team has agreed to a home-and-home football series with Angelo State for the 2024 and 2025 football seasons. The Rams will head to Welch Stadium to play the Hornets in Week 1 on Saturday, September 7 before making a return trip to San Angelo, Texas during the 2025 season. The Hornets have won nine games in each of the past two seasons and will face an Angelo State team that went 7-3 with a 6-2 record in the Lone Star Conference last year. ESU head football coach Garin Higgins talked about the opportunity to add a nonconference game to the schedule.
He said it could also help the team with its regional ranking.
Returning All-American wide receiver Tyler Kahmann is looking forward to the challenge.
It will be the first regular season nonconference game in 13 years for the Hornets. With the additon of Angelo State, ESU’s scheduled season opener against Washburn has been moved up to ‘Week Zero’. The Turnpike Tussle will kickoff on Thursday, August 29.
