There will be a special meeting for the Emporia Recreation Commission on Monday, but it looks like it will be short.
Board members are meeting to adopt an amendment to the memorandum of understanding involving it, the Emporia City Commission, Lyon County Commission and USD 253 Emporia — as related to the New Rec Center Steering Committee. This could give Rec Commission Director Tom McEvoy authority to approve proposed changes or points of business from the committee without the added step of bringing them to the Rec Commission beforehand, in much the same vein the City Commission did with City Manager Trey Cocking at its most recent meeting Wednesday.
This comes as the Steering Committee has handled its first major topic, approving a Request for Qualification to secure an architectural firm for designing either a new public recreation center or a significantly-expanded one.
The Rec Commission’s special meeting is at 11 am Monday at the Lee Beran Recreation Center.
