Wabaunsee County Undersheriff Eric Kirsch says deputies made a pair of notable arrests Saturday.
The first arrest happened Saturday morning outside Willard, where 44-year-old Richard Lee Leonard of Rossville was arrested at taser point but was taken into custody without incident after a traffic stop. Leonard initially had an active felony narcotics warrant out of Shawnee County, but that list expanded significantly after deputies worked with St. Mary’s Police to get a search warrant for Leonard’s vehicle, including but not limited to suspicion of distributing methamphetamine, possessing marijuana and paraphernalia, driving while suspended, operating a vehicle without a required ignition interlock device and committing unlawful acts involving vehicle registration.
Later Saturday, a deputy handled a traffic stop in Eskridge that led to the arrest of 53-year-old Amber Wanamaker of Bentonville, Arkansas. Wanamaker already had an active felony warrant from Arkansas on three counts of suspect aggravated assault involving a firearm, which included nationwide extradition and no-bond specifications. Kirsch also says there was a firearm discovered in Wanamaker’s vehicle.
Formal charges are pending against both Leonard and Wanamaker.
